Kensington and Chelsea’s streets have undergone major improvements over the past three years, with residents benefiting from cleaner air, safer roads and better options for walking, cycling and public transport. The progress is set out in a new report examining the impact of investment from Transport for London and the Mayor of London.

Between 2022 and 2025, 84 per cent of Kensington and Chelsea residents walked, cycled or used public transport for their daily journeys, placing the borough among the stronger performers in London. This shift has been supported by targeted improvements to street layouts, walking and cycling infrastructure and public transport access.

Cycling has been made more practical for everyday travel through the installation of 120 new on‑street cycle parking spaces, helping residents store bicycles close to home and local destinations. Alongside this, more than 1,600 adults and children have received cycle training, supporting confidence and skills for people of all ages.

Pedestrian safety has been further improved with the delivery of 18 new protected crossing facilities, making streets easier and safer to cross and improving accessibility for people of all ages and abilities. Public transport accessibility has also been strengthened, with seven bus stops upgraded to be fully accessible, helping ensure bus travel is inclusive and convenient.

Kensington and Chelsea has also made progress on cleaner transport, installing 285 on‑street electric vehicle charging points to support the shift away from petrol and diesel vehicles. Combined with traffic reduction measures and improvements to the public realm, completed schemes are helping reduce emissions and create a healthier street environment.

Together, these transport improvements show how targeted local investment can make a real difference. Kensington and Chelsea’s changing streets are helping create healthier, safer and more sustainable neighbourhoods, supporting community life while making it easier for people to travel safely and confidently every day.
