Hounslow's Streets Get Safer, Greener Upgrade

Hounslow’s streets have undergone major improvements over the past three years, with residents benefiting from safer roads and better options for walking, cycling and public transport. The progress is set out in a new report examining the impact of investment from Transport for London and the Mayor of London.

Between 2022 and 2025, 62 per cent of Hounslow residents walked, cycled or used public transport for their daily journeys, reflecting a continued shift towards more sustainable ways of getting around. This change has been supported by targeted investment to improve safety, encourage active travel and strengthen public transport reliability across the borough.

Pedestrian safety has been significantly improved through the delivery of 36 new protected crossing facilities, making it easier and safer for people of all ages and abilities to cross busy roads and move around their neighbourhoods.

Cycling has also been supported through the delivery of six kilometres of new or upgraded cycle routes, improving local connectivity and helping make cycling a more practical option for everyday journeys. Alongside this, 174 new cycle and scooter parking spaces have been installed at schools, encouraging active travel among children and young people.

Public transport has benefited too, with 22 bus stops made fully accessible, helping ensure bus travel is inclusive and convenient for all residents. In addition, Hounslow has invested in greener streets, with over 2,000 square metres of sustainable drainage systems installed, supporting climate resilience and creating more pleasant public spaces.

Together, these transport improvements show how targeted local investment can make a real difference. Hounslow’s changing streets are helping create safer, healthier and more sustainable neighbourhoods, supporting everyday travel while making it easier for residents to move around their borough with confidence.
