Ealing's Streets Get Safer, Greener Upgrade
Ealing’s streets have undergone major improvements over the past three years, with residents benefiting from safer roads, cleaner air and better options for walking, cycling and public transport. The progress is set out in a new report examining the impact of investment from Transport for London and the Mayor of London.
Between 2022 and 2025, 67 per cent of Ealing residents walked, cycled or used public transport for their daily journeys, reflecting a strong shift towards more sustainable travel. This change has been supported by nine kilometres of new or upgraded cycle routes and the installation of over 600 new on‑street cycle parking spaces, helping make cycling a practical choice for everyday journeys.
Families have benefited in particular from the expansion of 70 School Streets, which restrict through‑traffic at school drop‑off and pick‑up times. These schemes help improve air quality outside schools, reduce congestion and create calmer, safer streets for children and parents.
Ealing has also invested in building confidence and skills, with more than 3,500 adults and children receiving cycle training over the three‑year period. Alongside this, improvements to local streets and town centres have supported safer walking environments and encouraged more people to choose active travel for short trips.
Green infrastructure has formed a key part of these improvements, with over 2,600 square metres of sustainable drainage systems installed, helping manage surface water, reduce flood risk and support greener, more resilient streets.
Together, these transport improvements show how targeted local investment can make a real difference. Ealing’s changing streets are helping create healthier, safer and more sustainable neighbourhoods, supporting community life while making it easier for people to travel confidently every day.
