Camden’s Streets Get Safer, Greener Upgrade

Camden’s streets have undergone major improvements over the past three years, with residents benefiting from cleaner air, safer roads and better options for walking, cycling and public transport. The progress is set out in a new report examining the impact of investment from Transport for London and the Mayor of London.

Between 2022 and 2025, 87 per cent of Camden residents walked, cycled or used public transport for their daily journeys, putting the borough among the highest performers in London. This shift has been supported by five kilometres of new or upgraded cycle routes and the installation of more than 700 new on‑street cycle parking spaces, making cycling a practical choice for everyday travel.

Families have also benefited from the expansion of 18 School Streets, which restrict through‑traffic at school drop‑off and pick‑up times. These schemes have helped improve air quality outside schools, reduced congestion and made streets safer and calmer for children and parents. Pedestrian safety has been further boosted by 16 new protected crossings, improving accessibility for people of all ages and abilities.

Camden has also made progress on cleaner transport, installing 970 on‑street electric vehicle charging points to support the move away from petrol and diesel vehicles. Combined with traffic reduction measures and greener public spaces, completed schemes have delivered reductions in traffic, air pollution and carbon emissions.

Together, these transport improvements show how targeted local investment can make a real difference. Camden’s changing streets are helping create healthier, more sustainable neighbourhoods, supporting community life while making it easier for people to travel safely and confidently every day.
